Our head roaster Alsu Karimova joins the Global Coffee Awards jury

Our head roaster Alsu Karimova has joined the judging panel of the Global Coffee Awards, the international competition that evaluates specialty coffees and recognises the people doing the best work in the industry.

Who sits on the panel

The jury is made up of roasters, producers, green coffee buyers, educators and sensory specialists. The coffees they score go on to become benchmarks for the trade.

You cannot get there with a certificate. As Alsu puts it: "The most important thing is experience. You need to taste constantly."

Why it reaches your cup

Sitting on an international panel is calibration. When you score the same coffees alongside dozens of other specialists, your own palate is pulled into line with a shared scale.

So when Alsu says a coffee is good, that is not simply her opinion. It is a judgement checked against an external reference.

She is the person who chooses our green coffee, develops the roast profiles and runs our quality control. What lands in your cup in Tashkent is the end of that same chain of decisions.

From the Caucasus to the international stage

It is a step for Georgian specialty coffee too: expertise from the region is now part of the international conversation rather than an audience for it.

For us the practical meaning is simpler. Telling a partner our coffee is good is easy. Having it measured on somebody else's scale is a different thing entirely.
